Our twin log cabin is a comfortable living environment designed to be separated in 2 halves. This means it can be moved in 2 sections so it complies with the caravan act. Made bespoke to your size and design with the option to have one or two bedrooms and full living facilities.
Solid and Sustainable
You can recognise the popular log cabin system by its overlapping corner connections. The tongue and groove fits perfectly so the corner connections remain strong. The interlocking nature of the logs creates a solid structure that can withstand all weathers. This method of construction has stood the test of time. It continues to be admired for its durability, sustainability, and aesthetic appeal. The thermal properties of wood make log buildings naturally energy efficient, keeping them warm in winter and cool in summer.
Decades of Experience
Since 1978, Lugarde has been producing top-quality garden buildings. This expertise is reflected in every building, right down to the tiniest detail. In the Netherlands and the UK they are the market leader. Lugarde uses quality timber sourced from northern countries. The cold climate makes the wood extremely strong. All of the timber is kiln dried in special drying rooms to approx. 14-16% moisture content. This limits shrinking and expansion of the wood and improves its quality.
THE FOUNDATIONS
Designed, engineered and manufactured to the highest quality standards. The low-carbon foundation solution that doesn’t cost the earth. The ground screw piles have significant load-bearing capacities and galvanised for an increased lifespan of 76+ years. They are capable of supporting point loads exceeding 75kN and withstanding significant vertical uplift and horizontal forces exceeding 45kN. The screw foundations provide a rapid, robust and sustainable base for projects across all sectors.
For this cabin the layout and number of screws has already been calculated by our structural engineer. A static load test will need to be carried on your land by Island Ground Screws Ltd. This will confirm the size of ground screws that will be required prior to setting them into the ground.
MOVE WITH EASE
The cabin has been designed so that it is constructed on site in 2 separate halves. This classes the cabin as a “Chattel” which allows us to install it under the Caravan Act.
THE CONSTRUCTION
The timber sub-base has again been designed by our structural engineer. It is made in 2 halves using C24 pressure treated carcassing from Sweden. We have developed a unique way to fix magnesium boards to the underneath of the sub-base. These boards are A1 non-combustible, they wont rot or mold and they act as an anti-rodent barrier.
Timber framing is a practical construction method which continues to prioritize sustainability using natural materials.
The 44mm logs are pre-treated which protects it against fungi and rot. A big advantage of the treatment is that the inside and all of the bits that can’t be reached after assembly are treated. For the display we have chosen light grey but there are various colours you can choose from. These logs are all securely bolted together using 6.3x200mm advance timber fixing screws to prevent movement.
THERMAL BALANCE
Insulation is an essential component of the cabin and plays a crucial role in maintaining comfortable living conditions due to its numerous benefits. From improving energy efficiency to promoting environmental sustainability and enhancing acoustic comfort, proper insulation significantly contributes to creating comfortable living environments while minimizing our ecological footprint. The insulation used is designed to guarantee maximum comfort & efficacy in the long term because performance levels are maintained over time, the products are resistant to both ageing and compaction. We have achieved U Values of 0.13 in the roof, 0.17 in the walls and in the floor a U Value of 0.16.
THE OUTSIDE
ROOFING – On our display cabin we have used Tile Form Roofing. This is strong yet lightweight with a durable surface requiring no maintenance. Often referred to as tile effect roofing sheets, these roof tile sheets are designed to look like an authentic pan tile roof. Made from the best quality steel available, the metal tile effect sheets really do give the appearance of traditional clay tiles. Using 0.6mm galvanised Swedish Steel, sheets are formed with a tough, hard-wearing Prelaq Mica coating.
WINDOWS – Stylish U-PVC windows and doors throughout the cabin with some of the highest energy ratings on the market. As well as optimising the natural light in your room for added peace of mind, all of the UPVC windows come with a high security frame and a multi-point locking system. With the combined 36mm triple glazed 1.1 U Value A rated energy efficient rating and the timeless appeal of the Chamfered pattern which is made from 100% recycled material these windows are the best choice for your cabin. Our show model has anthracite grey on the outside and white on the inside but the choice of colours and combinations is up to you.
